Today, we will discuss college admission strategies based on the level of the student intending to go to college, and the level of the high school the student is attending.
If you proceed with consulting at A-One Institute, I will give you a detailed explanation of how it is conducted. When a student comes to the academy, we first look at the student’s GPA and evaluate the academic level of the student through our own tests and essays in math and science subjects.
Based on the results, we divide the student’s level into three categories: Outstanding/ Advanced/ Intermediate. Not only the student’s level, but also the level of the school the student is attending is important to divide into these three stages, Outstanding/ Advanced/ Intermediate.
Depending on the level of the student, Outstanding/ Advanced/ Intermediate Depending on the level of the school, Outstanding/ Advanced/ Intermediate We will divide it like this and look at the strategies for each situation.
If the high school the student is attending falls into the Outstanding category, it means that it is within the top 500 in the US News Ranking based on high school.
Since the school system varies depending on the school, if your school is not ranked, I will tell you how to judge it below. Since the curriculum varies so much from school to school based on the IB standard, it is difficult to find a benchmark, so I will explain it based on the AP standard, which applies a more uniform standard. School ranking judgment method The criteria for saying that a student’s high school is at an Outstanding level are as follows. When judging whether the level of high school is Outstanding, the subjects offered by the school are the standard.
• Science
If the following subjects are offered in the Science subject at the school where the student is attending, it is an Outstanding school.
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Physics C ( Mechanics and E&M)
Electrodynamics
Neurobiology
Organic Chemistry
Mechanic Learning
AI
Even if it is not all of the above subjects, if it offers up to the subjects highlighted in yellow, it is an Outstanding school.
• Math
AP Calculus AB & BC
Multivariable Calculus
Linear Algebra
Differential eq. w/complex
Probability Theory
If the subjects listed above are offered, it is a good school, but even if it offers up to Multivariable highlighted in yellow, it is an Outstanding school.
• Social
Various History and 2nd Languages should also be offered by type to be considered an Outstanding school.
AP Lang, AP Lit.
AP US History
AP World History
AP European History
AP Economics(Macro, Micro)
AP 2nd Lang.
AP Seminar
AP Research
If AP Seminar and Research are offered, it is an Outstanding school. Even if there is only one of the two, it is a high-level school. If your high school is not listed in the US ranking, it would be good to judge for yourself based on whether the subjects I explained above are offered. How to judge a student’s level Assuming that I met a student at the beginning of the 9th grade, I will show you how to determine the student’s level. If you receive grades without a B in an Outstanding school, you are an Outstanding student. If you have a very good score in the AMC 8 real game, you are an Outstanding student.
If there are more than 3 Bs in the GPA, this student is not an Outstanding student. If there is no AMC 8 score, it is not Outstanding at all. Once you have a standard for judging a student’s level, I will tell you how to structure the EC Extra Curricular depending on the student’s level.
• Outstanding student & Outstanding school
If both the school and the student are Outstanding, it is important to experience an Outstanding or Advanced EC.
• Outstanding student & Advanced school
I will explain the case where the student is Outstanding and the school is Advanced. When an Outstanding student applies to college, it is necessary to show that the high school I was attending could not handle “me” as a talent. The way to show this is to listen to the highest level of classes offered by the high school as quickly as possible and it is good to listen to other classes outside the school through Grade skipping. Of course, because I am an Outstanding student, it is good to structure the EC as Outstanding or Advanced.
• Advanced student & Outstanding school
If the student’s level is Advanced, rather than eating up time by Grade skipping, taking outside classes, or doing EC, it is necessary to focus on studying and raising the GPA. There may be cases where you decide to transfer due to a low GPA, but if it is only for college admission, I do not recommend transferring. There must be a valid reason, such as a parent’s job, that anyone can see that it is not a transfer due to grades. Transferring for the sole reason of grades is not a good method. Speaking of EC, since the student is Advanced, it is good to structure the EC as Advanced. Even if you only do Advanced EC, not Outstanding EC, it is enough to go to a good college.
• Advanced student & Advanced school
If an Advanced student is attending an Advanced school, it is good to do Grade skipping for one or two subjects and take one subject outside to make it look like I am an Outstanding student attending an Advanced school. However, the method I recommended above does not necessarily have to be done if the grades of other subjects are crumbling. Only when the grades of the subjects you are taking are perfect, I recommend you to challenge to listen to the moon class or outside class. It is good to choose and do EC that suits your level. Intermediate student If the student’s level is Intermediate, raising the student’s level is the first goal because it may be difficult to go to the US News ranking 20-30th place realistically.
While looking at the strategies according to the situation depending on the level of the student and the high school, the part you will be more curious about is probably EC. It is also the part that parents ask the most. The four important elements in college admissions that we always talk about at A-One Institute -GPA -Standardized Test -EC -Essay These are the four. Of these four conditions, the first and second, GPA and Standardized Test, are of course good to maintain good grades while taking Rigorous classes. However, it is true that it is vague how to do what activity for EC.
Today, we looked at what strategy is good depending on the level of the student and the high school. If you have more questions, please contact our A-One Institute and we will let you know in detail.
Thank you.
