Selecting High School Courses for Four Years
Today, I will explain how to structure GPA courses according to different situations. I will discuss two types of GPA structures, dividing them into STEM and Non-STEM students.
• GPA Structure for STEM Students
Outstanding School & Outstanding Student
Combination I will tell you about the GPA Course structure when an outstanding student wants to major in STEM while attending an outstanding school.
Research
It’s good to do research. Therefore, it’s important to think about the research topic early. I recommend that you structure the topics of school research and personal research the same. Especially in outstanding schools, students often start research from lower grades, so it’s good to find a topic early.
Math
If we assume that an outstanding student is attending an outstanding school, In 10th grade, AP Cal BC In 11th grade, Multivariable/ AP Stan In 12th grade, Linear Algebra might be possible, but in reality, there are few such students. There are some, but it’s a schedule that is far from reality. So, a realistic yet ideal math schedule is to take Double Math in 11th grade with AP Cal BC, AP Stat. and Multivariable in 12th grade. This schedule is also competitive.
Science
In the case of Science, it is ideal to structure it as AP Bio or Chem in 10th grade, AP Cal BC, AP Physics 1, AP Stat in 11th grade, and Multivariable, AP Physics C in 12th grade. If both the student and the school are outstanding, it is correct that the science course should be finished up to Physics C. There are students who have all four of Physics 1, Physics 2, and two types of Physics C, but it’s okay to do up to Physics C. A realistic science course is actually to structure AP Physics and AP Bio in 11th grade and go to Double Science and Physics C in 12th grade while taking two subjects of Double Math in 11th grade. The schedule of listening to Double Science is actually very hard. It’s okay to keep Double Math in 11th grade and go to Double Science in 12th grade. Remember that even if you structure math and science like this, it’s competitive.

English
Since the school is outstanding, it will be a school that offers all of AP Lang, Lit, Seminar. However, more than half of the students who want to major in STEM often dislike English and Social. There has never been a case where a student with very excellent skills, Outstanding, was admitted to HYPS without taking AP subjects in English or Social. Therefore, even if you are a STEM major student, it is important to take AP English and AP Social subjects. Especially for Asian Korean students, it is good for Asians to listen to one of AP Lang, Lit to shake off the suspicion of English that universities have towards them. AP Seminar should be considered as a more difficult English subject than AP Lang. If there is an AP Seminar subject in the school you are attending, I recommend you to listen to it, but it is also good to listen to AP Lang and Lit, and if it is really hard, please listen to AP Lang at least.
Social
For STEM students, they may not want to take Social subjects, but it would be good to give AP US History or AP World History, and it would be very helpful to give at least one of them. In the elective course, In the elective, CS, Music Theory, and Environmental Science are not bad subjects, so it would not be bad to mix a few AP Elective subjects while structuring the GPA. If you calculate AP Physics C as two subjects, you will take 14 APs up to 9-2 grades, and if you structure the timetable like this and the grades are okay, you will never fall behind in GPA. Refer to the Course Schedule I posted above and structure it similarly, and if there is Research, it will be very good for STEM students.
• GPA Structure for Non-STEM Students
Advanced School & Advanced Student Combination
Next, I will talk about the GPA course structure for Non-STEM students. This student is an Advanced student attending an Advanced school.
In fact, the more such students, the more important GPA can only be. Since it’s not an outstanding school, but an advanced school, you should get an A+ in all subjects. If you aim to be admitted to a university in the US Ranking 20-30th place, it would be good to take about 10 AP subjects as long as the school you are attending offers AP. There are many students who listen more, but assuming that you listen to about 10 APs, the ratio of STEM and Non-STEM subjects is important. The left group in the picture is STEM AP subjects, and the right group is Non-STEM AP subjects. If you want to go to STEM, it is good to structure the subjects in a ratio of STEM 6 Non-STEM 4 based on 10 APs.
Â
1.For STEM students AP STEM Subjects : AP Non-STEM Subjects = 6:4
If you want to go to Non-STEM, it is good to structure the subjects in a ratio of Non-STEM 8 STEM 2 based on 10 APs.
2.For Non-STEM students AP Non-STEM Subjects : AP STEM Subjects = 8:2
The reason for structuring like this is because universities do not prefer students who are biased to one side. When structuring diversely according to the ratio, it is important to structure with Core AP subjects.
Math
In the case of math, it is important to experience AP in the last 12th grade, and to do so, you must take Geometry at least in 9th grade to see AP in 12th grade. If you are not doing Geometry in 9th grade, you must do Grade Skipping. You should do the monthly turn through online credit completion or listening outside the school so that you can listen to AP in 12th grade. The timing of the monthly turn is faster as the grade is faster, so I advise you to try it in the lower grades.
English
Since you are a Non-STEM student, listen to both AP Lang, Lit, and if you really hate Lit, you don’t have to do it.
Social
It is good to give a lot of AP in the Social subject structure. It would be good to have both AP US History and AP World History, but it would be okay to have at least one of them, but it would be better to have both.
Science
In Science, listening to one AP makes it easy to make the ratio of Non-STEM subjects: STEM subjects, 6:4. So Non-STEM students often take Bio, but it’s also a good structure for Non-STEM students to take Physics. If you structure GPA like that, the student might think that there is a bonus point. So I would like to tell you that it’s not bad to try Physics if possible.
Elective AP Courses
Elective AP course has different difficulty levels, but Econ belongs to the difficult side and Stat is a good subject, so I wrote it down. With this GPA structure, I tell you that it is possible to challenge a university in the US Ranking 20-30th place.
However, remember that even if the student’s level is not Outstanding but Advanced, if the university evaluates this student, if you want to be considered as an Outstanding student, not Advanced, you should finish the best curriculum offered by the school you are attending with good grades and it would be a good way to take one subject from outside. I will finish today’s posting by giving you a tip.
At our A-One Institute, we can help you with the GPA structure for four years according to the situation, so if you have any questions, please contact us.
