what is the list of competitions that I can challenge?
The content we will be posting today is about EC, Extra Curricular activities, which have been the most frequently asked about by our audience so far.
It’s a fact that there are countless activities that students can participate in both inside and outside of school. We understand that many of you may feel overwhelmed about where to start in such a wide range of EC activities. Today, we will discuss where and how to start these EC activities. Math & Science related activities Firstly, we have classified activities into two categories based on difficulty: Outstanding and Advanced.
Math
If you look at the MATH section, Generally, the list called competition is in Outstanding, You can think of the slightly difficult math level competition as being in Advanced. The biggest criteria for distinguishing the two are Discrete Mathematics and Number Theory. Students who have studied these two fields can challenge the Outstanding list, but it is true that Advanced is difficult.
However, it is not necessary to go to the competitions on the Outstanding list to be admitted to prestigious universities, so you should organize activities based on the student’s situation. In fact, even if you don’t go as far as IMO in math competitions, it’s a good enough spec to go up to AIME. And the activities on the Advanced list are things that can be challenged if you have some advanced learning in math, so we recommend that STEM students aiming for 20-30th ranked universities definitely try it!
Science
Science Just like Math, there are somewhat Challenging activities in Outstanding, If you are a student aiming for a 20-30th ranked university, you can divide it into an Advanced activity list that can be fully covered. Although Olympiad competitions are in Outstanding activities, there are competitions by stages, and the first stage can be reached by studying hard at the AP level, so it is not bad to study with that as a goal, so we recommend it. Of course, if you advance beyond the first stage, it is a good activity that can prove the student’s Outstanding. In addition, while preparing for the Science Olympiad, which is a group participation from school, and doing research, EC can be enriched There are activities such as ISEF/ STS - Science Fair, Conrad Challenge, Neuroscience Research Prize, RSI.
If you are a student aiming for a 20-30th ranked university, we recommend that you definitely try one of the lists of Advanced activities!
There are many activities that can be tried at the level of having preceded Biology/ Chemistry, such as NSB, NCF, SSP, BWSI, so please refer to it.
Math & Science related Camp
There are various types of camps in the camp, but first of all, try challenging the free camp as your first choice! After all, such camps are the most Selective camps. The camp listed in the table above is a paid camp, but there are many camps that you can participate in if you have math skills at the level of competition because it is a Math Camp recognized by MIT. Also, the Science Camp list is a camp list recognized by MIT, so we have posted it for you to take a look at.
Social, English-related activities
Now it’s the Non-STEM category. I will explain each item.
• Concord Review An activity where you conduct research related to history, write a paper, and publish a thesis. Preparation period of more than 9 months. A heavy project.
• TASS A very competitive contest for those interested in history and racial issues.
• The Leonard L. Milberg ‘53 High School Poetry Prize A poetry writing contest.
• HIEEC Harvard Economics-related contest.
• John Locke Essay Competition A heavy but credible contest where you select a topic from seven categories and conduct research.
• National Economics Challenge Recommended for those who are interested in economics!
• National Speech & Debate Association Debating contest.
• John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest A meaningful contest related to history, but if you are interested in that short historical period. It’s good to challenge the contests in the Advanced list, not the Outstanding list, even if you don’t have deep knowledge.

Social & English-related Camp
Since it’s a Non-STEM category camp, the list could have been longer than STEM, but I will tell you a few things.
There are well-known
LBW (Wharton’s Leadership in the Business World), YYGS (Yale Young Global Scholars) Iowa Young Writers’ Studio, VSA (Vanderbilt Summer Academy), U of Notre Dame- Leadership Seminars, EFL (Economics for Leaders), AAJA JCamp (Journalism), NSLI-Y, etc. We strongly recommend that you apply if you think it’s okay for our students after looking at the link of the very meaningful camp list.

Computer related activities
Computer-related EC can also be divided into Outstanding and Advanced.
The Olympiad is naturally a difficult contest, and the camp hosted by a large company is indeed difficult, but it is worth challenging if students can write algorithms. The activities in Advanced are not that difficult, so if you are a student interested in algorithms or CS, we recommend that you try at least once.
