How to Develop Creativity and Insight to Become a True Leader

Today, I will share the content from the seminar held in July 2023. The topic is about the qualities desired in the AI era, specifically how to develop Creativity and Insight.

What kind of talent is needed in the AI era we are living in? What qualities should the leaders of our time possess?

Creativity and Insight Leaders in the AI era should have “Creativity and Insight, along with the confidence to delegate power without feeling insecure.” Let’s delve deeper into Creativity and Insight.

• Creativity 

As an educator, I have often pondered how to draw out creativity. After a long time of observing where creativity comes from, I realized that it emerges when meaningful knowledge is cross-edited and intertwined. Ultimately, creativity is the cross-editing of knowledge!

• Insight 

A person with insight is someone who can make multi-step predictions. I realized that a person who thinks in stages rather than just accepting various information superficially is someone with deep insight.

When people think of a representative of Creativity, many think of Apple. However, if you look closely at Apple, it seems like a cross-editing of Braun and Sony. Apple’s design is Braun’s design plus Sony’s technology.

Braun’s design + Sony’s technology = Apple

Now, let’s talk about Insight. As mentioned above, Insight is the ability to make multi-step predictions. For example, a person with insight would predict that a climate anomaly would lead to a drop in housing prices in China.

How do two seemingly unrelated things have such a correlation?

Just like predicting all the processes in the image above, a climate anomaly --> poor harvest --> rise in pork prices --> rise in inflation --> rise in interest rates --> increase in mortgage interest burden --> decrease in loans from financial institutions --> drop in housing prices in China due to interest burden. This multi-step prediction process, derived from the knowledge possessed by a person with insight, is what Insight is.

Creativity arises when knowledge is cross-edited, and having that background knowledge allows for multi-step predictions. Therefore, knowledge is ultimately important.

In this AI era, many students question whether they need to study. They argue that it’s enough to just ask smart questions, implying that knowledge is not important. Personally, I completely disagree. Paradoxically, knowledge is very important in the AI era. The Creativity and Insight needed in the AI era ultimately come from the background knowledge one possesses.

So, how do we accumulate this important background knowledge? The answer is reading! Although many students nowadays do not want to read, there is no alternative. I urge you to return to the basics and focus on reading to grow into the talent needed in the AI era.
